Blues Squeeze Past Jets 2-1 While Winnipeg Rings Two Posts
Winnipeg fired more pucks and kept pressing, but St. Louis got the goals that counted in a 2-1 win.
The Jets outshot the Blues 33-29, yet the chances were close to even. By expected goals, a measure of how much each team's chances were worth, St. Louis edged it 3.59 to 3.39. Winnipeg had more volume, and the Blues had slightly better looks.
The real gap was the iron. Alex Iafallo and Cole Koepke each rang a post, and those two shots together were worth about a goal. On another night, this one goes to overtime.
Philip Broberg led St. Louis with a goal, an assist and six shots in 23:41. Jimmy Snuggerud scored the other goal. The Blues' power play went 1-for-5, and Winnipeg's went 0-for-3.
For the Jets, Cole Perfetti scored on five shots. Pavel Buchnevich had the best chances of anyone on the ice for St. Louis and did not score. The Blues got the bounces when it mattered.
