Wallstedt and the Posts Turn Vegas Push into a Wild Win
The box score says Wild 4, Golden Knights 2, but the game tilted on goaltending and a few finishes that mattered most. Vegas produced the better looks overall, with expected goals — a measure of chance quality — at 5.01 to Minnesota’s 4.52, yet the Wild converted the key moments and their goalie shut the door.
Jesper Wallstedt was the difference. He erased about 3.01 more goals than expected, turning a Vegas chance edge into a quiet night on the scoreboard. Up ice, Joel Eriksson Ek buried a high‑value look — the kind of chance worth more than a full goal — while Quinn Hughes drove the attack with two primary setups. Kirill Kaprizov pushed play and added an assist, and both Matt Boldy and Danila Yurov scored and each hit iron.
Bounces mattered. The game saw four clangs — two posts and two crossbars — split between Yurov, Boldy, Nic Dowd, and Trevor Connelly. Carter Hart made 24 saves, but Minnesota finished better.
Tonight: Minnesota showed goaltending and finishing can win the margins; Vegas created plenty but met iron and a hot mask.
