Ullmark Turns Flyers’ Push Into Ottawa’s 2-1 Win
Philadelphia carried the run of play but couldn’t finish, and Linus Ullmark made sure that mattered. Ottawa had fewer looks, yet left with a 2-1 result because its goalie slammed the door and its shooters took their chances.
The Flyers generated the better chances all night — their opportunities added up to more danger by expected goals (how much a shot is likely to score), with 3.42 to Ottawa’s 2.51. They also won the shot-attempt tally, 63-50. Ullmark’s answer: 28 saves on 29 shots.
For Philadelphia, Matvei Michkov was the clearest threat, leading the visitors with 0.70 individual expected goals. Trevor Zegras and Travis Konecny each picked up an assist as they helped drive entries into dangerous areas, but the final touch never came. The near-misses were real, too: Ridly Greig for Ottawa and Tyson Foerster for Philly each hit iron.
Ottawa didn’t need volume. Nick Cousins and Carter Yakemchuk finished the few looks they had, and Ullmark did the rest — a night where the scoreboard cut against the underlying edge.
