Bouchard Scores Early, but Oilers Fall to Devils in a Shootout
Edmonton's blueliner led all Oilers skaters in ice time, yet the extra point slipped away in New Jersey's 4-3 shootout win.
Evan Bouchard scored and set up a goal, but the Edmonton Oilers still left New Jersey with only a point, losing 4-3 to the Devils in a shootout.
The defenceman logged 27:26, the most of any Oilers skater and the most among Edmonton's six defencemen. He scored at even strength in the first period, at 8:29, on one of his two shots on goal. His other point was a power-play assist. He finished plus one with no penalty minutes.
The night had a blemish: two giveaways, with no hits, blocks or takeaways recorded.
That fits his season. Bouchard has 9 goals and 19 assists in 16 games, with 2 power-play goals among his 9 power-play points. Two points in a game is a good night for him, not a departure.
Edmonton, 11-2-2 and first in the Pacific, had its three-game winning streak snapped. Bouchard's night kept them in the game, but it did not carry over to the shootout.
