Weegar Piles Up the Hits in Utah's Overtime Win Over Tampa Bay
The Mammoth defenceman logged the second-most minutes among his team's skaters as Utah edged the Lightning in extra time.
MacKenzie Weegar was around the puck all night in Utah's 5-4 overtime win over Tampa Bay. He finished with one assist, six hits, a blocked shot and two takeaways in 25:20 of ice time.
That was second among the Mammoth's 18 skaters and second among their six defencemen. He played 34 shifts. His point came at even strength, where he put one shot on goal from five attempts. He had two power-play shot attempts but no points there, and he finished plus-minus 0.
It was not a clean night. He gave the puck away three times, against two takeaways.
Against his season, the ice time was a step up from his 21.7 minutes a game. The six hits are also well above his pace: he has 42 in 12 games, about three and a half a night. The assist is only his second of the year, to go with two goals.
The win moves Utah to 8-4-0 and snaps a one-game losing streak.
