Schmidt Finds the Twine in Utah's 5-4 Win Over Pittsburgh
The Mammoth defenceman adds a helper and finishes a plus player as Utah holds off the Penguins at home.
Nate Schmidt had a scoring night from the blue line. The Utah defenceman scored at even strength in the second period, at 11:44, and added an assist as the Mammoth beat the Penguins 5-4.
He played 17:51 over 28 shifts. That was fifth among Utah's 18 skaters and fourth among the team's six defencemen, so not the busiest night on the back end. He was a plus-2, with one shot on goal and two hits. Both of his points came at even strength, and he had two giveaways.
The night was a jump in output for him. Through 10 games this season he has 1 goal and 2 assists for 3 points, and tonight's two points are two-thirds of that total. His ice time was also below his season average of 20.3 minutes a game.
For Utah, now 6-3-0 and second in the Central, it was a bounce-back win after the 6-2 home loss to Edmonton. Schmidt's goal was part of it.
