Scheifele Finds the Twine, but Jets Fall to Carolina
Winnipeg's forward scored in the second period at home, and the Hurricanes still left town with the win.
Mark Scheifele scored an even-strength goal in the second period, 4:23 in, but the Winnipeg Jets lost 3-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes at home.
He finished with one goal, no assists and three shots on goal in 19:19 of ice time over 20 shifts. That was sixth among Jets skaters and second among their forwards. He was a plus-1, added one hit and one blocked shot, and gave the puck away twice.
The goal is his second of the season, in eight games. His eight points so far are mostly assists (six), so a night built around a goal is a little different. His ice time sat close to his season average of 20.4 minutes.
He took no penalties and had no power-play points, so everything he produced came at even strength. It was a solid night for him, but it did not change the result for a Jets team now 4-1-2 and holding the first wildcard spot, while Carolina's winning streak reached six.
