Game Summary

McCann and Beniers Answer, but Lightning Win It in Overtime

Linemates McCann and Beniers both score for Seattle, yet Hagel and a Catton shot off the iron leave the Kraken one short.

By MA Insights

Seattle got its scoring from somewhere you might not expect, and it nearly stole a point and more in Tampa. Two of the Kraken's three goals came from linemates Jared McCann and Matty Beniers in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Lightning.

That push came while Seattle spent most of the night on the wrong side of the play. Tampa piled up shot attempts 61 to 47 and had the better looks overall, with expected goals (how many goals a team's chances were worth) of 3.64 to Seattle's 2.92. The Kraken's other goal came from Ryan Winterton, who led Seattle with four shots.

The iron got its say, too. Berkly Catton rang one off the frame, while Brandon Hagel and Nikita Kucherov each hit iron for Tampa. Hagel still scored twice on six shots in 23:24 of ice time.

Philipp Grubauer made 31 saves on 35 shots, and Vince Dunn logged 28:24 alongside Adam Larsson.
