Saros' Night Hands Vegas a Road Win in Nashville
Predators controlled the looks and the shot attempts, but the goaltending swing flipped the final result.
Written during the game · 12:11 AM ET. Final was VGK 5, NSH 2.
Juuse Saros had a night the Predators won't forget. He gave up five goals on 25 shots, finishing with 20 saves on 25 shots and the scoreboard tells the outcome.
What the box score hides is how much of this tilted on the goalie line: Saros finished with goals saved above expected of -3.11, meaning he allowed more goals than the chances against suggested he should. Nashville still generated the better volume and danger. The Predators out-attempted Vegas 60-46, outshot them 27-25, and created 17 high-danger chances to Vegas's 8 — more than twice as many prime looks.
In plain terms, the skaters did the heavy lifting; the saves weren’t there. This was a single-game on-ice failing for Saros rather than a failure of chance creation: Nashville controlled the looks but couldn't convert that control into a win.
