Hurricanes Drive the Game; Woll Keeps It Close

Aho’s finishing and Svechnikov’s setup work power a road win, while two posts and a scoreless Flyers power play keep the margin narrow.

Carolina had the better looks from start to finish, owning the chance ledger and pouring pucks on net, and the gap showed up in expected goals — how dangerous the chances were — 4.13 to 2.73. The Hurricanes stacked 40 shots and nearly doubled shot attempts 79-43, yet the Flyers stayed in it because Joseph Woll turned in 37 saves and got help from two pings off the iron.

Offensively, Sebastian Aho was the driver: two goals, an assist, and six shots. Andrei Svechnikov fed the attack with two assists, four shots, and one of those post hits. Carolina also cashed on the edge special-teams battle, going 2-for-4 while Philadelphia went 0-for-4.

Philadelphia’s five-on-five creation never really arrived. Trevor Zegras logged big minutes with zero shots, and Travis Konecny managed just one; the Flyers finished well behind in attempts and time spent threatening.

Takeaway: Carolina’s process carried the night; Philadelphia’s goalie kept the score close, not the run of play.
