Perfect Night vs. Porous Nights in Net

Vejmelka posts a shutout as several teams opened with low team save percentages

By MA Insights

The evening split neatly: Karel Vejmelka was flawless in Utah’s 6–0 opener.

Vejmelka — perfect through the game — registered a shutout and helped the Mammoth sit with a +6 goal differential after their win. His clean sheet came as Utah’s attack piled up the offense and the team posted a 100 percent save percentage in the standings data.

By contrast, a few teams register much lower team save percentages in the opening standings: the Edmonton Oilers at 71.1 and the Vancouver Canucks at 79.4. The Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets sit higher on the list.

Bottom line: when one netminder shuts the door and another’s team save rate is low, high-octane offenses flip results instantly. The box score’s save lines and the standings’ team save percentages make the difference plain — goaltending still determines whether scoring outbursts turn into wins or losses.
